BY CALEB GIRON, NATHAN DURAN, ELIA VASQUEZ, and CELESTE BACELIS Women have struggled through the years. They have been treated unfairly in comparison to men. What women want is to be treated equally and fair. One woman standing up to this issue is Leda Ramos, we didn’t have a chance to talk to her in person but we had a chance to to hear what she had to say about women’s rights. Her main goal is to empower women to speak up, over all help women. A quote that Ms. Ramos said is “young women, young girls, and older women I think all together we are all powerful.” The quote connects to our main idea because Leda stated that if women speak up they can be very powerful. All in all, we learned women have rights but they aren’t as equal as men’s rights and they still go through struggles till this day.
Discrimination Against Women
Period 2
BY LEILANI CERVANTES, ROBERTO CASTRO, ASHLEY DOMINGUEZ, and JACQUELINE MENENDEZ Our topic for our social justice article is Women’s Rights. Our main idea is about women being treated unfairly. We listened to an interview by Xochi Flores, a musician that is part of a band called, “Los Cambalache”. She is also a mother with three children and an organizer. She said “without women there’s no life, no movements, there’s nothing to move forward from,” Xochi Flores said. “Without women, there would be no life, so women should have the same rights as any other man.” We learned that we need to respect women because without them there’s no good or no humans at all. Also, we learned that lately, women have been treated unfairly because of their gender. Lastly, we learned that women should have all the rights to achieve anything they want.
Equality for Women
Period 5
BY EDITH CRUZ-FARIAS, GENESIS SOTO, JAYDEN MARTINEZ, and CAMILA MATEO Women are treated differently. They get paid less than men. Colored women get paid way more less than white women. For this, we interviewed Shirley Alvarado, Xochi Flores, and Dr. Melina Abdullah. “Without women there’s no life, nothing to move forward from,” said Xochi Flores. Flores is right, without women we can’t move forward. This connects with the main idea because women also get treated unfairly from men. Our group learned that women get treated differently, colored women get paid less than white women, and all women get paid less than men.
We Can Change the World
BY JOANA AMBRIZ, ANA VENTURA, ISABELLA PEREA, and MARTHA LOPEZ Do you want to take action in supporting women's rights? Many women don’t get equal rights because they are seen as weaker. They are seen as weaker because they are seen as unable to workout. Many people also think women are meant to stay in the house and clean and make food. We are learning about women's rights and getting information from a feminist and a supporter of women's rights. “I was a quiet activist until I found my voice,” said Leda Ramos. She was very shy and wouldn’t talk open up about her feelings on it. Then one day she found it and opened up about it and spoke up and expressed her thoughts and feelings on women’s rights. She now sticks up for women's rights and always expresses her thoughts on it whenever she can. Denim Day and #MeToo movements take a big role in the fight for women's equality. The fact that 11,718,953 people [participated in Denim Day is amazing because women and men are participating to stand up for women and want to help them get more rights .They’re there to protest about problems women face on the daily, because they don’t have equality. “I came from a family line of incredible women,” said Leda Ramos. She is the woman she is today because of the line of women she came from. She saw her mother helping other women when they needed it. Seeing her mother taking part of other women's life so it inspired her to do the same. She teaches her kids to be activists and stand up for women's rights . There are many ways we can fight for women's rights. We can take part in events such as Denim Day and #MeToo movement. I learned that lots of womens are being treated unfairly. We also learned that Leda Ramos believes the fight for women's rights is a necessity for people to fight for. She’s been a great activist and says her long path of education helped her. She found her voice and was helping other women by speaking out on her opinions.
