BY SEAN MURILLO, LAILANY TORRES, JULIANNA VARGAS, and ANAMARIA ZEPEDA Have you met someone as passionate about helping racism? Our topic is racism. Our purpose for writing this is to inspire people to stop racism. Our group heard a recording of an interview with Dr. Melina Abdullah, professor at California State University, Los Angeles and founder of Black Lives Matter (BLM). Our group heard Dr. Abdullah talking about slavery and how people would kidnap her ancestors to be slaves. Black Lives Matter started in 2013,” said by Melina Abdullah. Black Lives Matter is an organization that fights for the human rights of African Americans. Our group learned that racism is a bigger problem than we thought. Hopefully our community takes action by marching or closing restaurants that are bring racism to others. Our group learned that racism is a bigger problem than we thought.
End All Racism
Period 5
BY KEIRY CRUZ FARIAS, MELANY PEREZ, PAUL SEKONA, and ISRAEL ZUARES These days people are becoming more racist. The main idea is that president Donald Trump is not making people feel welcomed. We listened to an interview with Dr. Melina Abdullah. “President Trump claims that people are not humans, that they are dogs, specifically immigrants,” said Dr. Abdullah. This quote relates to the main idea because President Trump is making racist comments and making people feel unwelcome. As a group we learned that the LAPD is changing their way of acting and not protecting people.
Black Lives REALLY Do Matter
BY NATALIE MEDRANO, YESENIA PERAZA, ERICK TORRES, and FELIPE RUIZ “They try to teach us that police are here to protect and serve, but for black and brown people, they actually assault our communities,” said Dr. Melina Abdullah. Black lives really do matter. We always knew that everyone matters in this world but black and brown people were always faced with discrimination. What do you really know about racism? Also, what to you know about our own police force? Our social justice project is racism. Racism is everywhere. No matter where you go, racism follows. We interviewed Dr. Melina Abdullah. “They try to teach us that police are here to protect and serve, but for black and brown people, they actually assault our communities,” said Dr. Abdullah. The quote gives us information about the main idea because lately police have been called and attacking black and brown people. We learned that some people and places have been racist lately. Black and brown people have been arrested for no apparent reason. Racism is everywhere and one person can not end racism. Everyone has to help end racism.
No To Racism
BY ALEXIS BOLANOS , EFRAIN ANGEL GARCIAS JR., MELANY PALACIOS, and SCARLETTE RAMOS Racism can be a lifelong struggle to different people, that means people struggle with racism in different ways. We interviewed Dr. Melina Abdullah. “My definition of racism is a lifelong struggle,” said Dr. Melina Abdullah. She told us that one day, a white man called her office number and he said the ‘N’ word repeatedly. This quote connects because it says how Dr. Melina Abdullah explains racism. As a group we learned to treat others as you want to be treated, that’s for everyone like blacks and whites. So, if you want people to treat you with the proper respect, you need to show them respect.
No Need To Be Racist
BY CHRISTIAN GONZALEZ, KAYLYN PULIDO, STEPHANIE, and MAYLING VILLALOBOS “If you speak up against racism people get defensive, they feel they are not to be blamed of racism. When you call people out, you get a reaction,” said Dr. Jose Luis Benavides. Racism is when people make fun of other people’s race or skin color. We interviewed two people to talk about their experiences with racism. First of all, Dr. Jose Luis Benavides, a professor at California State University, Northridge had experiences with racism. Dr. Benavides was the only non-white professor in his department when he started at Northridge. An example of racism at a university happened in Cal Poly, SAn Luis Obispo. There were some students from San Luis Obispo that were dressed like gang members, while fraternity dressed in black face which means when white people paint their face black to imitate that they are black people, which is offensive, and for doing that, they got suspended for the act. Another person we interviewed is a woman named Jessica Arana. She is a graphic designer and was born in Mexico and was raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Also, Jessica Arana is bi-racial because her mother is white and her father is Mexican. She also had experience with racism because since she was mexican, people said that she was dirty. Furthermore, Jose Luis Benavides and Jessica Arana’s experience is that people called them names and they would call Jose Luis’s parents names. Also, Jessica Arana and Jose Luis experienced the same things. In conclusion, there is no one place where there is more racism. Lastly, we learned that it would make them sad and mad when people would talk about them. Then some people feel like they are not accepted in the world when people are racist to them.
